A Weekend Powered by Community: January Volunteers Weekend at the Lochranza Country Inn
January can be a quiet month for hospitality — but at the Lochranza Country Inn, it was anything but.
Over two special weekends this January, the Inn was proudly run by volunteers from across the community, coming together to support our much-loved, community-owned pub. What followed was an uplifting, energetic and hugely successful celebration of connection, creativity and community spirit.
A True Team Effort
From pulling pints and serving meals to welcoming guests and keeping everything running smoothly, our volunteers stepped up in every possible way. Some had hospitality experience, many didn’t — but all brought enthusiasm, generosity and a genuine desire to help the Inn thrive.
The result? A buzzing atmosphere, full tables, plenty of laughter and a renewed sense of what the Lochranza Country Inn means to the Northend.
A Packed Programme of Events
Across the Volunteers Weekends, we offered a varied programme designed to bring people together and create a real sense of occasion:
🎶 Live music from Arran Shanty Crew, filling the bar with sea songs, smiles and sing-alongs
🧠 A lively Quiz Night, with nine teams battling it out in friendly competition
🎬 Film Nights for all ages, in a cosy, relaxed community setting
🍿 Kids Film Club, complete with popcorn and slushies
🎸 Open music sessions, welcoming local musicians to play, sing or simply enjoy the atmosphere
Each event brought in different faces — locals, visitors, families and friends — all sharing the same space and sense of belonging.
Giving Back Where It Matters
One of the standout moments of the weekend came during the quiz night, when the winning team — Steve and his brilliant crew — chose to donate their prize winnings to Arran Animal Rescue & Sanctuary.
It was a gesture that perfectly summed up the spirit of the weekend: community supporting community.
More Than Just a Weekend
Beyond the takings at the bar or the number of events held, the Volunteers Weekend achieved something far more meaningful.
It reminded us that the Lochranza Country Inn is more than a pub — it’s a shared space, shaped by the people who care about it. It showed what’s possible when a community comes together with a common goal, and it reaffirmed why community ownership matters.
The feedback from volunteers, guests and visitors alike has been overwhelmingly positive, with many already asking: “When’s the next one?”
With Thanks
A heartfelt thank you goes to every volunteer who gave their time, energy and smiles; to the musicians, quiz hosts and helpers; and to everyone who came along to support the weekends.
January proved that even in the quietest months, the Lochranza Country Inn can be full of life — powered by people, pride and community spirit.
We can’t wait to do it all again.
